The introduction of Creative Commons had a great introduction through the blogging community. Many bloggers decided to publish their work under a Creative Commons license. But besides that, there are many bloggers that still decide to keep their work reserved, to prevent others from using (copying) it.

Basically the Creative Commons allow everyone to use the content someone else created, if there is a link back to the original content. There are multiple variations on the Creative Commons licenses, each with it’s own specific demands.
But the idea of the licenses stays the same; “sharing content in trade for a backlink”. And that’s exactly what makes it attractive to bloggers.
Create content for someone else to use …
Creative Commons has become to what it is today, due to the amount of users that started publishing their work under a Creative Commons license. Without people using it, the licenses would be useless. But today, there are more and more bloggers joining the network, that make their work free to use.
Together, all users have created some wonderful content, that is free to use for everyone around the globe. Off course, there is content that isn’t suitable for this kind of licensing. But for the content on blogs, encyclopedia’s and other sites with large amounts of usefull information, Creative Commons is the key to succes and for people getting to know your website, via the backlink.
… and use the content of someone else
This brings us to the part of Creative Commons, which is used even more. People use the content, released under a Creative Commons license, and link back to the original source. Many people can use lots of free content, just by linking back to the author.
When even more people start publishing their work under a Creative Commons license, more articles, pictures and other material becomes available for everyone to use. Don’t be selfish, share you’re content and start networking with new visitors and friends!
