There are many bloggers, who just blog to hit the frontpages of as many social media websites as they can. Most of them will forget that you won’t stand out of the crowd with some content that has been written thousands of times.

This article goes beyond bloggers, since bloggers aren’t the only group that’s using sites like Digg, StumbleUpon and Del.icio.us. Everyone who puts content on the world wide web, can (theoretically) be a user of social media.

Please remind that there 59 millions of pages once we Google on “succes social media”. This could be an article, just one out of many. But there are some things in which this article will differ from the other 59 million results.

Stop writing articles like this

There are many articles like this one, that including the tip to start writing articles like this one. But with the large amount of articles that push you to do so this creates an exponential growth in articles like this. Conclusion, there will be even more articles like this and so we will continue untill the end of times.

Is it useful? No. Does it have value for your website or blog? No. So why are people writing about this? Because all the articles say so and make people think that writing such an article, is the way to have success on social media. Together, we’re creating a vicious circle that does not result in quality content.

Social media really is social

Social media is all about the social in it, so you should pay attention to you’re friends. Not just add a bunch of friend and keep on asking to vote for your articles. It’s about how you treat your friends, if you never vote for any of the articles of your friends, it is most likely that your friends won’t vote for you.

Having friends on social media is as vital as having a heart in a human body. Without having a good and loving friendslist, it’s nearly impossible to hit the frontpages. Only extremely good content, with a giant piece of luck, have a chance to hit the frontpage without the aid of a large friendslist.

Aim for the most sensitive crowd

Once you’re really aiming to score (and get popular) on social media sites, you should give critique to Apple. I can hear you thinking; “Why Apple?”. It’s not about Apple, but about the people that adore the brand. Fans of Apple are know about the habit to always fight for the name and fame of the brand.

Articles like; “10 reasons why I will never, ever buy an Apple product again”, will attract the fans to see how they can smooth the opinion of the author of the article. People that agree with the article will vote too, just to be an opponent of the Apple fans. Critique on brands like Apple (or another respected and well known brand), is most likely topic to hit the frontpage of (for example) Digg.

The internet isn’t all about social media

Writing content on the internet, if it’s on a blog or a ordinary website. If you write an article just for success on social media, readers will notice that and they won’t be amused (to say it nice). People that visit you’re content via social media will also notice it and won’t give value to the content.

You really should write your content as you would normally do. Social media is about rating content on websites, not for posting articles on it that can also be used as regular content. The content is king and social media won’t change a single thing to that.

Again, Google is as fast as it should be. They’ve added another million results, which makes the 59 million results to 60 million results.
