A question that people keep on asking me all the time, since I implemented a phpBB forum inside my WordPress installation (on my Dutch blog). Reality is that people think different about forums, combined with blogs.

Many people think that a blog retains it’s quality, because it’s written by one person. Forums are for discussion and attract more people to give their opinion. That’s the reason why many people think a forum shouldn’t be used in combination with a blog.
But besides that, there are lots of people who think a forum is a great extra feature for a (successful) blog. Comments in blog tend to lose their overview, which keeps new visitors away from posting their comment. Ever wondered about the amount of Wordpress plugins that is available to the world, absolutely for free? Not even to mention, the amount of Wordpress plugins that are created for real money. I believe it’s possible to stuff an installation of Wordpress with such a large amount of compatible plugins, that it collapses under it’s own weight.

In a world that is stuffed with Wordpress plugins, it can be quite a job to find just the plugin you’re looking for. It will turn out in a few minutes of searching with Google, when you don’t know the (exact) name of the plugin.

Everyone can name their favorite plugins, so do I. But the trick is to name the plugins that really are worth installing, that add something usefull to the blog. Plugins tend to slow down a Wordpress blog, so it’s good to keep an eye on your performance.
There are a few plugins that came up in my mind instantly, when I thought about this list. Those plugins are so valuable for each blog that it’s not the question if they will be one the list, but how high on the list they will be. Read more »
Everyone knows Flickr today, one of the largest sources of pictures where literally everone can upload their favorite pictures. But Flickr has some key features, which allows bloggers to get inspiration from it.

Flickr allows users to upload their picture under a Creative Commons license, which allows us (the bloggers) to use the picture in one or more of our blogs. I’ve done it several times and everytime I visit Flickr, the pictures give me tons of ideas for new articles. Read more »
