For most types of work, it boosts the productivity of your work when you can design your own environment. Off course, there is always a boss that will keep it within limits (otherwise I would play my favorite music at volume 10 instead of 2). But still, your working environment will definitely affect your work.

I can’t imagine working, without having music in my ears. Okay, I can work without music, but I will be more productive when I can listen to my favorite bands jamming their guitars. Big chunks of code seem a lot less stressful with the chords of one of the best guitarists in the world.

A question that people keep on asking me all the time, since I implemented a phpBB forum inside my WordPress installation (on my Dutch blog). Reality is that people think different about forums, combined with blogs.

Many people think that a blog retains it’s quality, because it’s written by one person. Forums are for discussion and attract more people to give their opinion. That’s the reason why many people think a forum shouldn’t be used in combination with a blog.

But besides that, there are lots of people who think a forum is a great extra feature for a (successful) blog. Comments in blog tend to lose their overview, which keeps new visitors away from posting their comment. Yes, a blog can be personal, but in the past years blogs have grown beyond the personal logs of one person. Today, bloggers are the most valueable source of information, on the internet. Bloggers are working from day to day, to make/keep their blog worth visiting.

To attract new visitors, it could be a possibility to let other bloggers post articles on your blog. Perhaps you can let them blog about a subject that is close to your niche, to enrich your blog. In a world that is stuffed with Wordpress plugins, it can be quite a job to find just the plugin you’re looking for. It will turn out in a few minutes of searching with Google, when you don’t know the (exact) name of the plugin.

Everyone can name their favorite plugins, so do I. But the trick is to name the plugins that really are worth installing, that add something usefull to the blog. Plugins tend to slow down a Wordpress blog, so it’s good to keep an eye on your performance.

There are a few plugins that came up in my mind instantly, when I thought about this list. Those plugins are so valuable for each blog that it’s not the question if they will be one the list, but how high on the list they will be. Read more »

Literally millions of blogs are inhabiting the internet today, some are bigger, some are smaller. The trick is to make your blog remarkable, make your blog unique. I have to agree with people who say that new blogs don’t have a chance, but there are subjects yet to cover and even in the most crowded niches options for new blogs are still open.

Some new bloggers think it’s a world of money, subscribers and great content, but the truth isn’t that rosy. Hard work will be rewarded, but it takes time.
